THE PET KEEPER PROJECT PRIVACY POLICY

Effective Date: September 3, 2026

Pet Keeper Project, Inc. is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation focused on helping people find practical resources, community support, and possible solutions when a companion animal may be at risk of surrender, rehoming, abandonment, or inadequate care.

Protecting the privacy and dignity of people who ask for help is an important part of that work. This Privacy Policy explains what information we may collect, how we use it, when we may share it, and the choices available to you.

This policy applies to the Pet Keeper Project website, contact and intake forms, email communications, volunteer communications, and other nonprofit programs currently operated by Pet Keeper Project, Inc.

3. How Case Information May Be Shared

Pet Keeper's current model relies in part on community members and volunteers helping research possible resources, ideas, and solutions.

When appropriate, we may share a limited or de-identified summary of a situation with volunteers or members of our community in order to locate resources or possible assistance.

We do not intend to publicly share a person's private contact information, exact address, or other unnecessary identifying information simply because that person requested help.

If a potential volunteer, nonprofit, professional, or other resource needs to communicate directly with you, we may ask for your permission before sharing your contact information or making a direct introduction.

There may be limited situations where information must be disclosed without permission, such as when required by law or when reasonably necessary to address an immediate safety concern.

4. Stories, Photographs, and Social Media

Pet Keeper uses social media and public storytelling to educate people about animal-welfare issues, identify resources, build community participation, and share the work of people and organizations helping animals.

We may discuss situations in a generalized or de-identified way for educational or resource-seeking purposes.

We will not intentionally publish your name, personal contact information, identifiable private circumstances, or photographs that identify you as part of a case story without appropriate permission.

If you voluntarily post information publicly on Pet Keeper's social media pages or on another public platform, that information may be visible to others and may also be subject to that platform's privacy practices.

5. Volunteers, Nonprofits, Professionals, and Community Resources

Pet Keeper may work with volunteers, nonprofit organizations, shelters, animal-welfare professionals, veterinarians, trainers, community organizations, businesses, and other resources.

We may share information with them when:

  • You have asked us to make a connection

  • Sharing limited information is reasonably necessary to research or provide assistance

  • You have given permission

  • Disclosure is otherwise permitted or required by law

We try to limit the information shared to what is reasonably necessary for the purpose involved.

Pet Keeper cannot control the independent privacy practices of organizations or individuals after you voluntarily establish a direct relationship with them.

6. Charitable Assistance

Pet Keeper plans to establish a limited charitable assistance program when funding becomes available.

If that program launches, applicants may be asked to provide information necessary to evaluate eligibility, hardship, animal-welfare need, available alternatives, and the proposed use of assistance.

Pet Keeper may need to share limited information with veterinarians or other approved providers in order to verify an expense or make a payment on behalf of an approved recipient.

Pet Keeper will update this Privacy Policy if the operation of a future assistance program materially changes the way personal information is collected or used.

7. Community Forum

Pet Keeper plans to develop an online community Forum, but the Forum has not yet launched.

If the Forum is introduced, information posted publicly by users may be visible to other users or the public. Pet Keeper will establish additional rules and privacy information for the Forum before or when it becomes available.

8. Donations and Payment Information

Pet Keeper does not currently operate a funded charitable-assistance program.

If Pet Keeper accepts online donations or other charitable support, payment information may be processed by a third-party payment provider. Pet Keeper does not intend to store complete credit-card information itself.

We may maintain donor information and transaction records as reasonably necessary for acknowledgments, accounting, tax reporting, regulatory compliance, donor communications, and organizational recordkeeping.

We do not sell donor lists.

9. Service Providers

Pet Keeper may use third-party providers to operate parts of its nonprofit activities, including:

  • Website hosting

  • Email

  • Online forms

  • Cloud storage

These providers may process information on our behalf according to their own services, contracts, security practices, and legal obligations.

  • Stop nonessential communications

  • Review a reasonable request to delete information you previously provided

Some information may need to be retained for legal, accounting, safety, charitable-program, or recordkeeping purposes even after a deletion request.

We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on a privacy request.

16. Legal and Safety Disclosures

Pet Keeper may disclose information when reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable law, legal process, or governmental requirements

  • Protect the rights or safety of Pet Keeper, our volunteers, users, or others

  • Respond to suspected fraud, abuse, threats, or misuse

  • Address an immediate safety concern involving a person or animal

We will try to limit disclosures to information reasonably relevant to the situation.

17. Future Programs and Technology

Pet Keeper is an early-stage nonprofit organization, and some programs described in our mission and planning materials are still being developed.

This Privacy Policy describes our current operations and certain programs we are actively planning. It does not mean that every future feature discussed by Pet Keeper is currently available.

If Pet Keeper launches new services, technology, programs, accounts, forums, payment systems, or other features that materially change how personal information is collected or used, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
